Sky Sports have been nominated for a BAFTA Television Award for the production of their coverage of the 2025 Ryder Cup, which was dramatically won by Europe over the USA at Bethpage State Park last September.
Sky covered the Ryder Cup for the 15th time and their coverage was part of their most watched ever weekend across all channels, with 5 million tuning in across the three-day tournament. Sunday’s singles session attracted the highest-ever peak audience for golf on Sky Sports, with one in four TV viewers watching the dramatic finale, including more than 40% of under-35s. Sky Sports social channels also generated 55 million total views across all platforms, while digital engagement saw 12.4 million page views across Ryder Cup week on the Sky Sports app and skysports.com.
Coverage was presented by Nick Dougherty, with punditry from Paul McGinley, Rich Beem, Wayne Riley, David Howell, Sir Nick Faldo, Hunter Mahan and Laura Davies, with commentary from Ewen Murray and Andrew Coltart on site at Bethpage. Anna Jackson and Tim Bater provided reports and interviews. Sky produced 3 hours of build-up each day from Sky Sports Studios in Isleworth, London, hosted by Sarah Stirk, with guest Chris Wood, and analysis from Henni Zuel.
In November Ryder Cup Europe announced that Sky would remain the home of the Ryder Cup through 2029, including the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland, and 2029 at Hazeltine National in Minnesota, USA. Guy Kinnings, Chief Executive Officer of the DP World Tour, added: “As golf’s global Tour, the DP World Tour’s unparalleled diversity of locations and players is really resonating with fans, with an increased viewership on Sky Sports this season and increased spectator numbers at our events. This year’s Ryder Cup also reinforced that golf’s greatest team contest produces the levels of drama that few other sporting events can match. With the storytelling prowess of Sky Sports for four more years, we’re well set to continue growing our fan base.”
Other contenders for the award include the FA Cup Final, UEFA Women's Euro 2025 and Wimbledon 2025, all by BBC Sport.
This nomination is part of a slate of nominations which marks a standout performance at the 2026 BAFTA TV & Craft Awards, securing 28 nominations across all categories. This means that for the second consecutive year, Sky received nominations in every genre it commissions original content in, highlighting the range and quality of its Sky Originals.
This year also marks one of Sky’s most successful showings ever in performance categories, with five nominations. Colin Firth (Lockerbie: A Search for Truth), Matt Smith (The Death of Bunny Munro), and Rafa Mathé (The Death of Bunny Munro) are all recognised for their work in Sky Original series. They are joined by Aimee Lou Wood (The White Lotus) and Emilia Jones (Task), rounding out a strong year for acting nominations.
Leading the Sky nominations are two limited series The Death of Bunny Munro and Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, with four nominations each. Alongside acting nods for Matt Smith and Rafa Mathé, The Death of Bunny Munro has been recognised for Original Music: Fiction (Nick Cave and Warren Ellis) and Titles & Graphic Identity. Alongside Colin Firth’s nomination, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth has also received nominations for Make Up & Hair Design, Costume and Sound: Fiction.
Sky’s documentary output also continues to gain critical acclaim, with Bibaa & Nicole: Murder in the Park earning a nomination for Factual Series. This follows its recent Grierson Award win and RTS nomination, underscoring its impact and the quality of documentary making.
For the first time ever, a Sky Original series from Italy has also earned a BAFTA nomination, with Tom Rowlands recognised for Original Music for Mussolini: Son of the Century.
Additionally, Sky has achieved double nominations in seven categories, including Romesh Ranganathan receiving dual nominations in the Entertainment Performance category for Rob & Romesh Vs… and Romesh: Can’t Knock The Hustle.
These nominations reflect Sky’s continued investment in high-quality, unmissable storytelling across genres, as well as its commitment to working with world-class creative talent.
