The 38-year-old carded a five under par final round of 67 to reach 15 under and claim his second DP World Tour title at Great Northern, following a chaotic Sunday where eight players had at least a share of the lead.

Winther entered the fourth round four shots off the summit, however boosted his chances with birdies at the fourth and fifth before dropping shots at the sixth and eighth to derail his title bid.

A brace of birdies from the ninth saw him surge back into contention before rejoining the lead at 13 under with a gain at the 13th.

Rasmus Højgaard, who began the day five shots adrift, had mixed three birdies and three bogeys on his first 12 holes before a brilliant burst to finish his round. He birdied the 15th and 16th before chipping in for eagle at the penultimate hole to sit alongside compatriot Winther at 13 under.

Winther replied with a spectacular eagle two of his own on the 16th to jump to 15 under, before parring his way home to secure his first victory since the 2021 Mallorca Golf Open.

He becomes the second Danish winner of this event following Rasmus Højgaard's victory in 2023 at HimmerLand and the second Dane to win on the 2026 Race to Dubai after Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen's win at the Crown Australian Open.

Højgaard bogeyed the last to finish on 12 under alongside Italian Filippo Celli, Finland’s Oliver Lindell, Englishman Matthew Jordan and Chinese teenager Yanhan Zhou.

Denmark's Marcus Helligkilde and overnight leader Romain Langasque were one shot-back at 11 under, while another Dane, Jacob Skov Olesen, finished in a tie for ninth alongside Freddy Schott, Joel Girrbach and Ewen Ferguson.

"I don't know what to say to be honest. Everyone has been great all week. Dave my caddie has done amazing all week, keeping it in the fairway and just getting me to the green," said Winther.

The greenkeepers have been insane, great pins and great set-up. It's impossible to rank, just after my kids' birth I think, it's amazing and I don't think it's sunk in yet, but I'm overly happy.

We've been clapped off every single green; we've hit bad shots and still get clapped off. The crowds carried me all week, it's been unbelievable. I just hit the green on 16 and thought 'I'm very happy with this shot' and then I hear a massive roar and a massive screen behind our green and Rasmus chips in. I'm like 'he just wants some attention, doesn't he?'.

He's a top player and then I sunk my eagle putt, and I'm just over the moon. When that putt went in, I thought 'now I've got a chance'. That was probably the first time today I thought I had a chance.

I don't see it that way, I feel a lot of love from the crowds and all the Danes support all the Danes, besides all the other players, but especially the Danes you can feel the love shining through. I was never even going to be a golfer, so this is just insane. I don't know what to say, I'm in shock.

Rasmus Højgaard: I didn't expect to be in the position I was in coming down the last hole. I struggled with my game all day and then suddenly I made a few birdies and holed out.

It was great to put myself in the positions where I had a chance, but it's just not a great feeling. The eagle was unbelievable and I put myself in a good position on the right side so I could chip up the green. It came out on a good line, it was tracking and I saw it go in and obviously there was a big roar out there.

I didn't want to make a reaction there because I knew that 18 was still in front of me. I tried to control myself as much as I could after holing it and then try and compose myself going into the rest.
