2027 sell-out shows that the Ryder Cup is the biggest event in golf by far

55,000 fans per day set to descend on Adare Manor for 100th anniversary Ryder Cup next September

Every year when the Majors come around there is always a debate about which is the biggest event in golf, is it the Masters, or is it The Open? Today, the Ryder Cup proved which event stands above all of them.

Ryder Cup Europe have announced that General admission tickets have sold out, and could have sold out 12-times over, meaning more than 650,000 people from more than 80 countries around the world applied for tickets to the matches. 33 years ago the Ryder Cup inspired me to pick up a club for the first time, and for many around the world this is the greatest event in the sport. The Ryder Cup transcends golf, and sits in the top category of sports events around the world, above any of golf's major championships.

Ryder Cup Europe confirmed the news in a press release: General admission tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup have now sold out at the conclusion of the ballot process following unprecedented global demand to attend next year’s contest at Adare Manor, in Limerick, Ireland.

Fans who were successful in the ballot process were informed over the last seven days, with those people joining fans who had previously secured their tickets in the exclusive island of Ireland priority window in May, which sold out in under an hour.

Following the allocation of tickets, fans from 80 different countries will be part of the 100-year anniversary edition of the Ryder Cup.

The island of Ireland understandably has the largest representation, comprising 34 per cent of the overall spectator numbers as Ireland hosts the Ryder Cup for the first time since 2006.

Richard Atkinson, the European Tour group’s Chief Ryder Cup Officer, said: “We always thought there would be huge global interest in the 2027 Ryder Cup, but the demand for tickets we received throughout the entire process has been nothing short of remarkable.

“We could have sold out our general admission tickets more than 12 times over, which is testament to the appeal of golf’s greatest team contest, as well as the passion of fans who want to be part of it.

“Next year’s Ryder Cup at Adare Manor promises to be a truly special occasion and we look forward to welcoming international visitors to Limerick to experience the very best of Irish hospitality as well as an historic sporting event.”

The overall attendance across the Ryder Cup week, from September 13-19, 2027, is expected to exceed 250,000, with a daily site capacity of 55,000.

Despite general admission tickets being sold out, there are still opportunities for people seeking to attend next year’s Ryder Cup, with bespoke travel inclusive packages and a limited number of premium experiences available via rydercup.com.

For residents of the island of Ireland, thousands of tickets will also be available for Tuesday’s practice day as part of the ‘SuperValu Community Day’ courtesy of Musgrave, Ireland’s leading food retail, wholesale, and foodservice business. The Ryder Cup will be part of an incredible fortnight for Irish golf with the Amgen Irish Open being played at the K Club in the following week, giving the tournament a chance to recruit several of the biggest names in world golf. This September marks 20 years since Ireland's first Ryder Cup, at the K Club, and as someone who worked as a Caddie at Royal County Down during that incredible summer, I can tell you that Ryder Cup fever gripped the entire Island of Ireland, and no doubt it will do so again in 2027.
